[hercules-390] WTF?! IBM now denies access to reference manuals without IBM ID and password?!

I wanted to download the latest z/Architecture Principles of Operation today (SA22-7832-11) and was greeted with the following web page:

Yeah, sigh. Resource Link is for customers only; a mere IBM ID that
anyone can get doesn't "entitle" you. But the POO is available at many

Not true. After waiting the required hour (why it takes so long and why the extra step, I don't know. It's annoying) I was able to sign in with my IBM ID and was granted access to Resource Link, where I was able to download publications relevant to the z14 (one of which was of course the new PoO manual I was wanting).

Besides that, I *am* (supposedly) an IBM customer. I was assigned a customer id when I registered my company (Software Development Laboratories) with them quite a while ago.

Bottom line: I *eventually* (after an hour wait!) got what I needed.

But sheesh! Such a hassle! They sure make you jump through hoops! :(

Albert posted another place where it can be download from too, but I prefer to get my manuals directly from IBM when possible. The only manuals I don't get directly from IBM are the really old manuals they no longer have on their web site, and those I usually get from bitsavers:

That may well be why they gave you access. Or quite possibly it was a
mistake... :-) IBM has offshored pretty much all that kind of stuff,
and (in my role as an actually, paying IBM customer) I can say that
there are screwups.

main page says they're not accepting new paper or even scanned
material.
