Psst ...

Hercules doesnt do LPARs. LPARNUM is documentation for STIDP instruction.

As pointed out, Hercules emulates a single LPAR, not a entire mainframe
of multiple partitions.

To run two LPAR's simply execute two instances of Hercules for each
LPAR you want to run.  A lot of Hercules configuration considerations
when attempting to do this.

This of course begs the question, why you may want to run two LPAR's
and what they might want to do with each other when they are both
running.

Hello0
It has already been asked an answered in this forum. And all it
requires two sets of disks. and one running form of Hercules. But why
do you need to do that? You never did explain that one.

No link, but multiple instances of hercules is easy.
The trick is using zVM for coupling software.

To run multiple hercules instances, you must update the
hercules configuration files to not step on each others
IP ports.
See CNSLPORT and either HTTPPORT or "HTTP PORT"
depending on the hercules release.

If sharing disk between systems, you will need SHRDPORT on
one instance but if on both, they must have different IP ports.

Two or more correctly set up Hercules instances on the same or different PC’s with the same CPUSERIAL and different LPARNUM / LPARNAME settings will look to z/OS as different LPAR’s on a single machine. I myself have not (yet) done so on a single PC though, but agree with others that also this should be no problem. On multiple PC’s you may want to ensure a consistent time clock, e.g. using NTP (also available under Windows).

As sysplex is being mentioned, please note that base sysplex coupling using XCF is possible and working fine using Hercules CTCE devices. z/VM is not needed for that, although the z/OS base sysplex members can also run under z/VM, even under different Single System Image (SSI) z/VM members on different PC hosts.

not needed for that, although the z/OS base sysplex members can also run
under z/VM, even under different Single System Image (SSI) z/VM members on

But note that *Parallel* Sysplex cannot be run on Hercules, for a several
reasons: Hercules does not implement the CPU type of Coupling Facility, and
even if it did, there is nowhere to get the code to run on such a CPU. On
IBM's real iron, the Coupling Facility code comes from the hardware
microcode storage. Even running under z/VM, the code is still loaded by
some undocumented process from the hardware, and then virtualized by VM.

To say nothing of the larger licensing issues...
