How can I identify the type of an unknown hercules dasd file ? (3390,
3390-x 3380 etc)

I'm looking at CCKDDIAG.exe and looking through the source (ckddasd.c
and dasdinit.c looks promising)

If none of the utilities do this now, an option added to either
CCKDDIAG or dasdls to do so would be nice :)

I just tried this, and it identifies as
"3330" below:

C:\scratch>cckddiag -g file.150

READPOS seeking 0 (0x00000000)
READPOS reading buf addr 000000000014f9d0 length 512 (0x0000000000000200)

3330 device has 19 heads/cylinder

Well I see the *Hyperion* dasdls version (at least from :
Hercules version 4.0.0.8597-g05652fb (4.0.0.8597)
*does* show the *trks* and *cylinders* (from which I can derive the
*dasd type*.

I didn't think of trying the Hyperion binaries, until reading your
message and was about to call BS ;(using Hercules 3.12 ;)
