Hello Fish
Hello to everybody
I have problem with VSAM Extended Dataset because my operating system (OS390 1.3 of 1996) emulated by an Hercules 3.05 doesn't permit to open them because it says that is impossible to open them because doesn't find ESCON CHANNEL.
I have put on OS/390 in these days all the the patches I have found for my version of OS/390 of ESCON and of FICON (that superseeds ESCON).
I will try to make an IPL with CLPA as requested by many ptf of ESCON / FICON in this week.
I see as in the screenshoot that in Hyperion (Hercules 4.0) there is a patch made by Fish for the VSAM Extended Dataset.
Does it solve my problem?
It's better that I upgrade from Hercules 3.05 to Hyperion (Hercules 4.0)?
Thank you very much for helping me.
Best Regards

Alberto Invernizzi

Try specifying that the disk volume is on a 3990-6 controller. Just add
cu=3990-6 to your device definition.

In my opinion, yes.

Then you would be able to answer your own question. :)

Hello to everybody
Hello Fish.
Fish adviced me to upgrade from Hercules 3.05 to Hercules 4.0 to have a fix for vsam extended dataset for a problem that I have with those type of dataset (I am not able to open it).
Is it a long activity change from Hercules 3.05 to Hercules 4.0 because I have many disks emulated on my mainframe and I don't hnow if I have to do something also on every emulated 3390 disk of my mainframe during the conversion from a version of Hercules to another version of Hercules.
Thank you very much for helping me.
Best Regards

No conversion effort. Just open with new hercules.
You should check your Hercules log on start-up.
There could be some Hercules configuration file changes.

Alberto, just to add to what Mike said, you should
be able to go from Hercules 3.xx to 4.xx *and
back again* freely. I do this quite often as I get
test results from Hercules 3.07, 3.13 and 4.00
when I am experiencing a problem.

The HTTP statements are not compatible. You should add both versions, so
your config file works for 3.x and 4.0 versions.

# HTTP ROOT /usr/local/share/hercules/ # Hyperion 4.0 HTTP root directory
HTTP START # Hyperion 4.0
