In your z?OS 2.3 Codes manual,
what is WAIT07B-20

Did you also try a newer release of Hercules?

I’d be interested in how to make this work. I’ve searched and searched. One person said they did it but didn’t provide details as to how, many say it’s an additional layer of software protection...

Thanks

By the way I got it to IPL with some extra settings (let me check and post) but there were errors as zos booted.

Thanks

Ok, so I used Here v4, although my config below (created with the help of others) mentions v3, i've not tested it.

I think 'bit44' was the key to get v2.1 to IPL (until errors came up on master console).

I have 0.000001% experience with system z and zos :-)

The original problem (getting z/OS 2.3 to IPL) is still not fixed. 2.1 and 2.2 both work fine when you add the proper settings, but 2.3 loads a wait state as the original poster stated.

I'm receiving, through email (SMTP), multiple copies (in the order of 5)
of messages, including messages I sent, from hercules groups.

Am I the only one?

Peppe, you are not the only one. I am also getting from 4 to 6 exact
copies of messages. This seems to have started early Saturday morning.
I belong to a number of groups, many of which have moved off of Yahoo.
This is only happening on YAHOO groups.

Hello!
I'm not, However I was busy for most of yesterday and the Saturday,
rigging, and redoing this drive for this guy, so that the computer and
I would have more space to work on important projects..... Of course
given the fact that Yahoo is slowly going towards final collapse those
might be harbingers.

Guys check the headers to see what the signatures say, if the first
one insists its from Yahoo, the great. But if the second and possibly
third, all the way down to the last multiple, then there's a problem.

Of course it might have have a good explanation someplace.

I have gotten a second copy of some of them.

Is anybody else with multiple copies on comcast, downloading messages to
a client on your desktop?

In the past I have gotten massive numbers of multiple copies when
(apparently) something got reset at comcast and multiple days would be
resent.  A couple times I would see this, sitting at my computer, and
all of a sudden they start resending the last 4 days worth of email.
There was some indication the resend included a few emails snot sent
before, so I guessed they figured out they missed something and just
resent everything.

Then, recently, I thought a few times something was sent late. Like
maybe they figured out it had been missed the first time but instead of
resending everything, only sent those missed.  if true, perhaps
sometimes that algorithm fails and a few things get sent a second time.

Hi Brian

I heard rumors that starting from Release 2.1 or 2.2 the ADCD version of z/OS contains some "traps" to prevent IPLing on alien (i.e. non z/PDT) emulators. Those traps apparently are not present in the regular (i.e. non ADCD) versions. So, those proper settings (BIT44, ALRF, 3990-3) you and others mentioned in earlier posts, seem to work from z/OS 2.1 or 2.2 onwards with non ADCD versions of z/OS only.

With the z/OS 2.2 ADCD, apparently, an initiator blow out during master scheduler initialization is seen (IEE479W MASTER SCHEDULER ABEND 0A0), leaving the system perfectly operating (i.e. _no_ wait state at all) but of course unusable.

The wait state 7B with reason code 020 mentioned by the OP is interesting and might be just an additional measure, perhaps introduced with 2.3, to further prevent using alien emulators. At least it isn't documented, even not in the latest "MVS System Codes" manual... maybe, it was introduced because it might have been too easy to get around the initiator blow out featured in 2.2?

Cheers
JÃŒrgen

The non-ADCD version of z/OS 2.3 does not work under Hercules. In this case I believe it's because they have upped the ARCHLEVEL of z/OS, and Hercules doesn't yet simulate it.

I'm not sure who is working on the fix (if anyone), but it's easily reproduce able.
