Hi,

I get "disabled wait state" when I try to install it.
I guess it's related to the support of modern CPU like EC12, Z114, or Z196, so it's also relevant to Redhat 7 and latest Fedora.

This is what I get when trying to install SLES 12.2 from ISO, on hercules hyperion under Centos 6.8 64 bit (I tried Hercules 3.11 and 3.12 as well):

We heard you the first time. :)

ARCHLVL DISABLED ASN_LX_REUSE
<snip>

I have not personally tried installing SLES12 SP2 z/Linux on Hercules myself so I can neither confirm nor deny whether this has anything to do with your problem or not, BUT...

Your above ARCHLVL statement is malformed. It should be:

ARCHLVL DISABLE ASN_LX_REUSE

(Note "DISABLE", not "DISABLED". Drop the ending 'D')

As a result of this syntax error the ASN and LX Reuse facility might not have been disabled, leading to your failure.

Again, this is just a guess. I have not verified the above for myself. It's just an obvious error that jumped out at me.

You should always check your Hercules log file closely for error messages, especially during startup, as oftentimes they can be (and typically are) directly related to subsequent problems you happen to experience later on.

Thanks David, But I still have the same problem.
I guess it's the same issue of simulating Z114 or Z196 or EC12 that exists in Rehdat 7 or any latest z/Linux version.
In the forum I see that many people had problems with these issues a year ago. Are there solutions today for installing modern distributions of z/Linux on Hercules?

Thanks
Tidhar

Well, one problem that I see is that you've specified a zEC12 machine (CPU
Model 2827). But, you've only specified 2GB of main memory.

According to IBM Literature, a zEC12 STARTS with 32GB of main memory.

So, z/Linux is probably doing a hardware check and seeing that things
aren't right.

http://www-03.ibm.com/systems/z/hardware/zenterprise/zec12_specs.html

You might want to look at the hardware bulletins for z/Linux and see what
the minimum hardware configs are. I'd be willing to bet thats where your
problems are.

I'm still stuck with this without a clue. An offer:
Does anyone want to do a fee-paid task of finding how to configure Hercules in order to succeed installing SLES 12 SP2 z/Linux? The DVD ISO are available at Suse site (trial of few months)

Apparently this is not going to be possible at this time.

There are reported issues in the Hercules code which has yet to be resolved.

https://github.com/hercules-390/hyperion/issues/29

and its progeny.

Is this problem related specifically to z/Linux of SLES 12 SP2?
Or for emulating processors o Z114/Z196/EC2/Z13 ? Is there any version of Hercules that can run modern zLinux (which requires Z114 or later)?

No.

Some think it is smart to store facility bits that must be on for an
operating system to IPL, even if the promised function is not
implemented, or implemented wrong.

About modern z/Linux - I mean I need SLES 12 SP2 and Redhat 7.3 which both requires modern processors.

I read that someone (Peter J) succeed to install SLES 12 SP1 with some trick. Is it possible to do something like that for SLES 12 SP2?

Thanks
