Speaking of old line printers, I have an ALPS P200G. I got it from some folks who had purchased, for pennies on the dollar, most (if not all) of the DP equipment from an Air Force base that was being closed. I never could find a proper set of drivers for the thing, so I never hooked it up. So I don't know if the thing works or not; it appears to be complete (works off the parallel port on a PC, looking at the connector). If anyone wants it, I'll give it to them - split the freight for it. Weighs arond forty or fifty pounds. Also have an HP Laser Jet (model number not on front, but uses font cartridges fonts, has one marked "92286T Tax 1 Font Cartridge in it, back label says it's an HP 2686A); toner cartridge appears to be empty, no idea where to get another, even if I wanted to buy one. No drivers, apparently not on HP web site. If and when I get my hand truck back from the miscreant who
borrowed it, I'll haul it to the dumpster. Must weigh close to a hundred pounds. Any takers?
Regards,
Ron Tatum

If you REALLY want to be authentic, poke around eBay for a Dataproducts
B-Series printer. These are honkin big commercial-quality LINE printers
that use a rotating band. They sound and print enough like a 1403 to
give you flashbacks.
Unfortunately, they're still in demand, and sell for good money, even on
the used market.

Subject: [hercules-390] Authentic old line printer font
Just for the group's info, I found a almost exact duplicate of the
font used on old line printers, called "Chainprinter" ...
http://www.myfonts.com/fonts/typodermic/chainprinter/
<http://www.myfonts.com/fonts/typodermic/chainprinter/>
They also make a crisper version with those evil lower case letters
called "Linefeed" ...
http://www.myfonts.com/fonts/typodermic/linefeed/
<http://www.myfonts.com/fonts/typodermic/linefeed/>
I don't know why, but these fonts really make listings really come
alive, at least for me.
...CPV
Note: Sorry if this sounded like spam. I don't have any affilation
with the vendor of these fonts, except for being a very satisfied
customer.
