Hi,
I am trying to install RedHat Linux 7.2 for s390 on
hercules.

After running ipl redhat.ins from command prompt of
hercules I get the following message.

Starting telnetd and sshd to allow login over the
network.

Please connect now to 192.168.5.177 and start 'loader'
from this shell.
sh-2.05#

I am not able to telnet to the specified IP address.
Can anybody please let me know what I am doing wrong
here.

Your help would be really appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Raju

Raju,
Can you ping to 192.168.5.177 ?
Login as root from the Hercules console and then execute ifconfig
command to see dev ctc0.
In my Hercules/W2K is:
ctc0 Link encap:Serial Line IP
inet addr:207.169.83.6 P-t-P:207.169.82.19 Mask:255.255.255.255
UP POINTOPOINT RUNNING NOARP MTU:4096 Metric:1
RX packets:534 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
collisions:0 txqueuelen:100
RX bytes:169473 (165.5 Kb) TX bytes:0 (0.0 b)

Where 207.162.82.19 it's NIC IP address should be defined in the
Hercules CTC Adapter. (or the physical NIC address)
In Windows you should use ipconfig/all to get this info

Raju,

You have the wrong subnet mask coded for the IP address you're
using. The address 192.168.5.177 is a class C address and needs a
subnet mask of 255.255.255.0. The mask you have coded (255.255.0.0)
is for a class B address.

Also your gateway, DNS and WINS servers are on different subnets to
your Win2k box. If you're going to use 192.168.5.177 for Win2k then
your gateway, DNS and WINS servers (are you really running both DNS
and WINS servers at those addresses??) also need to be in the
192.168.5.0 subnet. The IP address you use for RedHat also needs to
be in the 192.168.5.0 subnet.

Hope this helps some.....Tony Cross
